Where does your passion for food come from?
My Mom, Ellen Louise spent most of her time in the kitchen when we were growing up. She was an amazing cook and was always experimenting. She took a lot of pride in setting the table and how things looked. We lived overseas in Singapore for 6 years and she had a huge collection of blue and white china: plates, bowls, teapots, vases, all in different patterns. She would search in all the little shops wherever we traveled looking for new finds. I’m sure I got my love of pattern mixing from her.
Where is your favorite place to eat?
Raccolto in West Seattle … homemade pasta 2 block from our home! My Husband And I and I love it!
Tell us about a new product you are working on.
My current goal is to create matching sets!! Because I’m always following my creative instincts while I’m working, I tend to get constantly sidetracked by texture. Old textiles, ribbons and trims inspire me. I incorporate texture and patterns into all of my pieces.
What will our fans find at your booth this fall?
I create handmade cheese stones, platters, salt pots, and butter dishes. I believe that everyone should have art in their life and things that you use everyday can bring you happiness and reflect your personal style. These are the pieces that I make for you. A special platter or a cheese stone for entertaining or a spoon rest that’s home is on the kitchen stove. I want to make your kitchen and table a unique reflection of your individuality.
What’s your favorite part of this food movement?
I love the creativity that is happening in food. I love that people are experimenting like never before and that that so many cultures are bringing their food to the masses. I grew up in Singapore and was exposed to so many flavors at such a young age. Eating prawns in sweet black sauce and chicken satay at the hawker stalls when you’re 10 will make an impact!
What’s the best part of your job?
I get excited when someone finds a piece that they can’t set down, a piece that they just fell in love with. It happened to me and it’s when I became mesmerized by ceramics, and what started my journey that has brought me here.
