Blueberry picking is one of my favorite activities to do in the summer but what to do with blueberries is another question. Bow Hill Blueberries makes it all for you so you don’t have to do anything but enjoy blueberries!!!
Where does your passion for food come from?
BOW HILL IS A SMALL FARM WITH A HUGE COMMITMENT TO GROWING AND PRESERVING HEIRLOOM BLUEBERRIES ORGANICALLY.
Tell us about your culinary journey.
HARLEY AND I BOUGHT THE OLDEST BLUEBERRY FARM IN THE SKAGIT VALLEY AFTER THE PARENTS OF THAT FAMILY HAD PASSED AWAY AND THEIR FOUR SONS NO LONGER WANTED IT. OUR GOAL WAS TO REVIVE THE FARM TO COMMUNITY CENTER IT ONCE WAS AND TO OFFER THE PUBLIC A PLACE TO CONNECT WITH THE FRESHEST, HEALTHIEST FOOD POSSIBLE. TO DO THIS WE IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE FARM ORGANIC, RE-OPENED THE FARM TO YOU-PICK AND FIGURED OUT WHAT EACH VARIETY WAS BEST FOR SO THAT WE COULD BECOME SUSTAINABLE THROUGH VALUE-ADDED PRODUCTION. OUR FIRST DISCOVERY WAS THE PICKLED BLUEBERRY THAT COULD BE MADE BECAUSE OF THE THICKNESS OF OUR TINY HEIRLOOM BLUEBERRY’S SKIN – IT CAN HOLD A PICKLE WITHOUT BECOMING MUSHY. 6 YEARS LATER IS IS A GOOD FOOD AWARD WINNER.
